Canberra

The front November 10

The back November 10

We moved to Canberra in 1986 originally living at 1 Bath Place, Spence. We wanted to be close to the Barton Highway as we imagined we would be traveling to Wagga quite frequently. Canberra schools had a system called 'Open Plan' whereby two or more classes occupied a room with two or more teachers. We preferred traditional schools and the closest was at Cook, quite a distance from Spence.

After a year the owners of Bath Place returned from an overseas posting and we had to move on to 19 Mathieson Crescent, Weetangera, which was much closer to Cook.

In 1990, after accepting a position in Saudi Arabia, we decided we better buy a house so we had something to come back to. We passed 18 Bambridge Street, Weetangera one Saturday as the agent was putting up the flags for an open day. We stopped but the agent said we needed to come back later. We were on our way to take the boys to sport. On the way back, the agent was taking the flags down so we stopped again. She said we were too late, but she would check with the owner. Luckily the owner said OK so we bought it on the spot.

We have done a lot of work on the house since returning and we are pretty happy with the way it now is. We are lucky to be so close to Belconnen and the Parkway which leads to most destinations in Canberra
