Wadi Sa'diya

A picture of our Land Rover as a left hand drive in front of a Turkish fort along Wadi Sa'diya. Wadi Sa'diya is a beautiful area about 150 Km south east of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. It is just off the coastal highway, along the edge of the Red Sea, to Abha. The Wadi Sa'diya landscape contains wispy trees similar to those found in the safari country of Kenya and Tanzania. The wadi had some beautiful lush areas of vegetation along its course which became our prize camp sites. There were also some ancient rock carvings which added to the mystique of this enchanting country.

A Brief History

Harry and Jo met in Wagga Wagga where at one time they both worked for the PMG which later became Telecom Australia. They married in 1985 and moved to Canberra where Harry continued to work for Telecom Australia, Jo for the Pipeline Authority. Harry already had two sons David and Philip and a daughter Catherine, Jo had two sons Sam and Ryan both of whom accompanied us to Canberra.

Towards the end of 1990 the opportunity arose to take up a position with Telecom Australia International in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This appointment lasted for almost four years when the company lost its contract with the Saudi Telecom Company. Luckily a new venture was just starting and employment was gained in 1994 in Jeddah with a Norwegian company Norconsult Telematics. Harry and Jo stayed in Saudi Arabia until the end of 1999, eventually returning to Canberra where Harry pursued retirement and Jo joined Australian Forest Products Association .
